Example of newsletter:

Welcome to our June newsletter. Hopefully you are finding the issue of e-mails to you advising of new products etc of use, and hopefully I’ve kept to my promise of not overloaded your inbox with e-mail.

With summer now upon us we will be changing the emphasis of what we stock a little to more warm weather related goods. Having said that, we are still being asked for our Findlater’s pies so we have re-ordered and they will be taking their rightful place in the upright chiller and freezer.

As usual we are looking for your ideas and we will endeavour to bring in any item that you are searching for to use in that special recipe.

Recipes Of The Month

Pesto & Peas on Tagliatelle

Pesto

handful basil
handful pine nuts
1 clove garlic
4 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
5-6 tbsp olive oil
freshly ground black pepper

Whizz up all the ingredients in a blender. I quite like to toast the pine nuts first, to give them a bit of extra flavour.

Cook the tagliatelle until al dente. Add the peas to the pan a few minutes before the pasta is ready.

Drain the pasta & peas and toss in the pesto. Season and top with some grated parmesan.

The above recipe is taken from tinned tomatoes blog (www.tinnedtomatoes.com) which has a superb collection of vegetarian recipes. Check it out.

I would recommend using Rustichella tagliatelle.

Pork chops with a Cheese and Mustard Glaze

  • 4 pork chops
  • 200g /7oz grated cheese
  • 3tsp wholegrain mustard
  • double cream
  • salt and pepper

Method

  1. Heat a frying pan and brown the pork chops on all sides making sure the fat is well cooked, this takes about four minutes.
  2. Turn on the grill to its highest heat
  3. Mix the cheese with the mustard and enough cream to make a spreadable paste, season with some salt and pepper. Spread the mixture over the chops and place under the grill for about 4 minutes until golden brown.

Branching Out

Did you know that you can now by our wonderful sandwiches at Tea, Leaves and Coffee on the Perth Road, and at The Health Store in Commercial Street (vegan and vegetarian only at the latter)?  Pop in and see what else they have on offer.

Outside Catering Menu

We have just updated our outside catering menu. Our sumptuous selection is still available but we have re-empasised the possibility of us delivering tapas and sushi PLUS we have a new offering called Platinum (for want of a better word) where you can have smoked salmon; Parma and Serrano hams; salamis; cutting pies; hot dishes and a fantastic cheeseboard.

The price is dependent upon what you choose obviously, but like all our prices it now includes free delivery and uplift of trays etc; free plates and napkins; plus a guarantee on timeliness. If we deliver more than 10 minutes late there will be a partial refund – the amount depending on lateness.

We can therefore guarantee you great tasting food plus ease of mind that we will deliver on or before the promised time.

What more can you ask for?

Staff Members

We are pleased to have Gabrielle (Gabby to her friends) back working with us during the summer months as she leaves her architecture studies behind.

She will bring her normal bubbliness, attention to detail, and Brazilian character back into the deli.

We’ve also heard that Dominicka who started with us almost 4 years ago right at the very beginning of Taste Fresh is returning to Poland to work. She is returning however with a Scottish partner, so between that and the fun she had at Taste Fresh her stay in Dundee has been rewarding. We wish her well in the future.

New Product of the Month

Corn and Chilli Burrito

You will find this product, along with our Thai Wrap and the Spinach and Chickpea Calzone in the upright chiller section of the deli.

The burrito delivers a true taste of Mexico in a handy size (250g) that is perfect for either a lunchtime snack or an evening meal (which was my choice for this evening).

The tortilla is filled with refried beans, sweetcorn, salsa, sour cream and chillies – giving in a nice kick.

You can either heat it up in the microwave or preferably in a hot oven which gives the burrito a crispier outer.

Tasting Sessions

Saturday’s tasting on 20th June will be a honey and lemon dressing from Summer Harvest near Crieff.

We already stock their rapeseed oil and raspberry dressing so are trying out their new range of 3 dressings. Come along and give it a try.

The next Taste Fresh Club tasting session will be on Thursday 24th June from 17:00 – 18:00 when we will again be giving you the opportunity to sample some more new goods.

On offer will be products from Atkins & Potts, and a Caithness baker amongst others.

Make a note in your diary and give yourself a good reason to pop in on the way home from a hard day at work.

Supplier of the Month

Puddledub Pork & Fifeshire Bacon Co.

Puddledub (to give them an abbreviated name) are a small family business based in Auchtertool, West Fife. They realise that a growing number of people care how animals are reared and treated and that mass-produced foods have lost much of their taste and quality.

Puddledub have an extensive range of pork cuts to suit all tastes.

The pigs are reared, butchered and prepared on the farm and delivered direct to us at Taste Fresh.

Sensational Sausages

They offer 16 different fresh sausage recipes, ranging from plain pork, to lemon and fennel, to Auchtertool originals to chorizo.  Something to suit everyone.

  • They use only fresh shoulder pork.
  • They use only the best seasonings.
  • They use natural casings, lamb and hog.

Brilliant Bacon and Gammons

  •  At Puddledub their gammons and bacon are cold smoked in their own smoker using oak and Beachwood chippings.
  • No artificial flavouring is used in the smoking process.
  • The bacon is cured without any added water. They use only curing salts and a little sugar.
  • The bacon will not produce white exudates on cooking and achieves a very satisfactory flavour.
  • Choose from middle bacon - unsmoked drycured or smoked dry cured.

“Probably the Best Bacon I have tasted in a very, very long time. Absolutely as Scottish bacon should be. Not often I taste things which are as outstanding as this”
-Nick Nairn
